Maruti Suzuki is planning on launching the Jimny in India (soon, hopefully). The off-road SUV was spotted testing in Europe and it looked slightly longer too. A Jimny with a longer wheelbase? Oh, all the possibilities. So, what comes to your mind when you hear the words ‘Jimny’ and ‘long wheelbase’ together? Let us tell you what we thought of. Here are all the different ways a longer Jimny has helped us reimagine the SUV and raised expectations:

5-Door Setup

At least we know our priorities are straight. We do love our practicality after all. The test mule spotted only had three doors, but as it goes with testing, it could just be a makeshift body over a longer wheelbase. We do know Maruti is considering a 5-door Jimny for India, so this might just be a step towards that.

Pickup

A more fun aspect is the Jimny reimagined as a pickup. If you need help with that, the Jimny Sierra Pickup concept was showcased in 2019. If you still aren’t satisfied, there’s folks in New Zealand who sell Jimnies retrofitted with all sorts of after-market modifications to function as a pickup or other practical workhorses. 

3-Door Setup

While we can expect a 5-door setup, there’s no telling that the test mule could actually be for a three-door LWB version. A longer Jimny could mean more doors and more back row and cargo space as well.

All of this is possible with the stretched version of the Jimny. When it arrives in India, it will do so as a five-door SUV. However, we would also love to see a pickup version with a five-door setup here as well. Let us know in the comments if you feel the same. The Jimny could arrive here by early-2022, with a price tag of around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with other off-road SUVs such as the Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Force Gurkha.
