The 2020 Creta will borrow plenty of design elements from the Venue and will be underpinned by a new platform

  • Gets an all new front fascia with split headlamps.
  • Likely to be longer than the current-gen Creta.
  • Will get a new set of BSVI petrol and diesel motors.
  • Likely to be offered with a 7-seat layout as well.

After unveiling the Venue sub-4 metre SUV, Hyundai is now working on the next-gen Creta. Unveiled at the 2019 Auto Shanghai as the next-gen ix25, the compact SUV has been spied undisguised in South Korea. Like the current model, the next-gen India-spec Creta will be based on the ix25.

The 2020 Creta gets a brand new face with plenty of design elements borrowed from the smaller Venue and the much larger Palisade. Yes, the huge one piece cascading grille makes its way to the Creta with the Hyundai logo placed high up. Flanking the cascading grille are a set of split projector headlights that are likely to be LED units. But unlike the Venue, the top portion of the split headlights also feature LED DRLs. Expected these to function as the turn indicators as well.

From the side, it looks like the new ix25 is longer than the current-gen car. The next-gen car also tilts towards a slightly squared wheel arches rather than the rounded one seen on the current car. Filling up those wheel arches are what look like a set of dual tone alloy wheels. While they do look like the ones seen on the Venue, they seem to be a tad larger. Above the rear wheel, there is a haunch which gives the new SUV some much needed muscle. At the rear, and you can spot a split setup for the tail lamps. There’s even a massive black strip that runs across the length of the tailgate with the stop lamp integrated into it. The tailgate has been completely redesigned as well with plenty of elements to reduce the visual mass.

Based on the car seen at the 2019 Auto Shanghai, we are confident that the second-gen Creta will feature a new dual tone dash. It gets a new steering wheel that’s similar in design to the one seen on the Venue. The 2020 Creta might also employ a huge Tesla-like vertical touchscreen on the centre console, similar to the one seen on the upcoming MG Hector.

Talking about features, the 2020 Creta is likely to get Hyundai’s Blue Link connectivity system which is set to make its debut with the Venue. Apart from that, the next-gen Creta is expected to feature a dual zone climate control, cruise control, powered front seats, sunroof, cruise control, and more.

Even though it’s not official yet, we expect the Creta to get a new set of BSVI-compliant motors for India. The new set of motors are likely to be the new 1.5-litre diesel and petrol motors which could power the upcoming Kia SP2i. Transmission options are also likely to be the same, with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The next-gen Creta might also retain the diesel-AT combo as seen on the current car.

Based on the same platform as the upcoming Kia SP2i, the next-gen Creta is expected to hit our showrooms by 2020. Not only will it be a step up over the current-gen SUV in terms of features and engines, Hyundai is also expected to launch a seven seater version of the SUV as well. The next-gen Creta will take on the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Harrier in India.
