Isuzu has launched the facelift of its flagship SUV, the MU-X, in India at Rs 26.26 lakh while the AWD variant has been priced at Rs 28.22 lakh, ex-showroom pan-India.

Since this is a facelift, the aesthetic changes are on the subtle side. Up front, the MU-X gets a new set of headlamps like the ones on the international models and also features bi-LED projector lamps with LED DRLs. The front grille is now sharper and gets a ‘fang’-like impression. Isuzu has also redesigned the front bumper, which now sports a sharper front apron. Overall shape of the car is the same as before but it does get new 18-inch alloys wheels which replace the old 17-inchers. At the back you also see updated tail lamps which now feature an LED strip along with redesigned internals.

Under the hood, it has the same 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine as before and makes 177PS of max power and 380Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. Isuzu will likely update its engine lineup of the MU-X later to adhere to BSVI norms, which kick in by April 2020.

Cabin has been tweaked slightly as well and now features an all-black theme that looks quite elegant. The dash features piano black finish with wooden inserts and you also see the inclusion of a push-start button. The dash features a 7-inch touchscreen system, though connectivity through Android Auto and Apple Car Play has been given amiss. However, Isuzu has bolstered up the safety quotient on the new MU-X with the addition of six airbags. Rear seats still get roof-mounted AC vents, even for the third row. Space in the third row, however, seems cramped for adults. The new MU-X also comes with a ‘5ECURE’ package that provides ‘5 years warranty and free periodic maintenance for 5 years or 150,000 km (whichever is earlier).

The MU-X still undercuts its competition like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour when it comes to pricing but is right in the line of fire of the new Honda CR-V, which also now comes with three-row seating and a new diesel engine. While the Isuzu has the CR-V trumped in terms of engine, power and off-road credentials, the CR-V is the more versatile city rover and has better brand recall.
