Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has unveiled the new 1290 Adventure R at the ongoing 2016 INTERMOT. The bike looks like a signature KTM adventure machine, but has a more sculpted and no-nonsense design.
The front features the tall windshield design with a high-rise fairing. The headlamp is the same vertically stacked unit, with the authentic KTM love-it-or-hate-it design. The headlamp unit also features cornering lights which are controlled via the lean angle sensor. The side boasts a trellis frame chassis, which is tied to the engine via Bosch-sourced MSC package in its highest specifications. One also notices a slim seat and a large exhaust unit which will comply with the latest European emission norms.
The bike is loaded to the brim with features. To begin with, it has a fully digital 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster to provide the rider every vital information as well as tech control of the bike. This includes the trips, the riding modes, Hill Hold Control, slip regulation, fuel, tyre pressure, etc. It also packs a lean-angle sensitive C-ABS, Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), and four riding modes, namely Sport, Street, Rain and Off-Road.

These features are notable, but the all-new motor will leave you enthralled. The 1301cc unit 75-degree V-twin produces a mind-boggling 175PS. However, KTM has restricted the power output to 162PS with a peak torque of 140Nm. The motor is tuned to provide an effortless low-end torque of around 100Nm at as low as 2500rpm!
The 1290 Adventure R rides on 21-inch and 18-inch Continental tyres up front and out back, respectively. The bike gets 48mm WP upside-down shocks with progressive damping for the front wheels, while the rear wheel is suspended using a trailing link mono shock. The front end features a massive suspension travel of 220mm to tackle all sorts of terrains. The bike weighs considerably less at 217kg (dry) for a 1301cc bike, while the chassis is just 9.8kg.
