Up to 211 PS of power, with a 226 PS GTI version confirmed

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.Polo, the first-ever all-electric version of its popular hatchback. Based on the brand’s MEB+ platform, it marks a significant step in Volkswagen’s push towards more accessible electric mobility globally. Prices are expected to start at under €25,000 (approximately Rs 27.70 lakh) globally, with pre-bookings already underway in select international markets.
If you’ve been waiting for a practical, everyday EV hatchback with the familiarity of a Polo, here’s everything you need to know:
The ID.Polo is the first model to showcase Volkswagen’s new Pure Positive design language. Up front, it gets connected LED headlamps with sleek DRLs and an illuminated logo, giving it a clean yet futuristic identity. The bumper features a wide air dam with vertical intakes and subtle sporty detailing.

From the side, sharp character lines, flared wheel arches and a distinctive C-pillar (inspired by the original Golf) give it a familiar yet modern stance. It also rides on alloy wheels up to 19 inches. The rear door handles have also been placed behind the window for a cleaner 'two-door' look.

At the rear there is a full-width LED light bar connecting the smart-looking LED taillamps with rectangular detailing. You also have a sharkfin antenna, a large rear spoiler and a clean look for the bumper with generous amounts of black cladding.

Step inside, and the ID.Polo offers a minimalist yet functional cabin. The dashboard is dominated by a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10-inch digital driver’s display, both positioned for easy access. Unlike many modern EVs, Volkswagen has retained some physical controls for essential functions like climate settings.

The cabin focuses on usability and space, with improved packaging thanks to the EV platform, offering more room than its ICE counterpart.
The ID.Polo comes well-equipped with modern tech and convenience features, including a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless phone charging, 12-way powered front seats with massage function and a panoramic glass roof.

Safety is handled by a comprehensive suite of features, including a Level 2 ADAS suite, park assist plus, 360-degree camera, multiple airbags and a lot more.
The Volkswagen ID.Polo is offered with two battery options and multiple power outputs:

Notably, the ID.Polo also gets 105 kW DC fast charging capabilities with the larger battery pack that can top up the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 24 minutes.
The ID.Polo is expected to see its global introduction later this year. As of now, Volkswagen has no plans of bringing it to India, although expect it to cost a pretty penny if it eventually makes its way here. Globally, the ID.Polo will compete with compact electric hatchbacks such as the Renault 5 E-Tech, Peugeot e-208 and the Mini Cooper SE.

The ID.Polo represents a crucial step in making electric mobility more accessible in the mass-market hatchback space. By bringing EV tech, long-range and premium features into a familiar and widely trusted nameplate, Volkswagen is aiming to accelerate EV adoption among budget car buyers. It also signals a broader shift where legacy hatchbacks transition into electric-first models, but does it lose their core identity? Let us know in the comments below!
