  • Honda Elevate unveiled in Japan as the WR-V.
  • Exterior design is largely the same as the India-spec model.
  • Inside, the dashboard is finished in a sporty all-black hue instead of the black/tan shade we get here.
  • Gets a larger infotainment, but misses out on sunroof and wireless phone charger.
  • Powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, teamed with a CVT.
  • In India, the WR-V was a crossover that has been discontinued.

Honda has taken the wraps off the Elevate compact SUV in Japan, its home turf. This model goes on sale as the next-gen WR-V in the Land Of Rising Sun. In India, the WR-V nameplate, which is no longer available, was a crossover that’s based on the Jazz.

In terms of design, the Japanese-spec Elevate looks largely similar to the India-spec model. So you get the same no nonsense design that will age quite gracefully. You can also buy the Japanese model in a stealthy looking black shade, which isn’t offered here. To take a closer look at the Elevate, head to our in-depth image gallery

While the exterior design is similar to the India-spec model, there are some evident changes on the inside. For starters, the Japanese model gets an all-black interior that looks sportier than the black/tan scheme we get here. Plus, the Elevate sold overseas also seems to get a slightly larger infotainment system as opposed to the 10.25-inch unit available here.

That said, the Japanese model doesn’t get two features: a sunroof and wireless phone charger. Rest of the features are neck and neck, which include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, automatic climate control, a semi-digital instrument cluster, multiple airbags, electronic stability control and most importantly, ADAS.

Powering the WR-V is the familiar 1.5-litre petrol engine that drives the front wheels via CVT. Unlike the India-spec model, you can get the Japan-spec Elevate with a manual transmission.
