The exterior and interior of the Volkswagen Tera have been revealed in Brazil.
Built on the MQB A0 platform, similar to the Skoda Kylaq.
Engine specifications are yet to be revealed, but a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine option is expected.
India launch is yet to be confirmed.
Around the same time as the global debut of the Skoda Kylaq, Volkswagen revealed plans to launch an entry-level SUV named Tera. Now, the subcompact SUV has been fully unveiled in Brazil, except for its powertrain specs. Positioned as VW's most affordable SUV, the German carmaker is yet to confirm any details about its India launch, but we expect it to be in the pipeline. Let’s dive further into its exterior and interior details.
The Tera's front design takes cues from Volkswagen's larger models like the new-gen Tiguan, featuring sleek LED DRLs. It also boasts a blacked-out honeycomb grille which paired with blacked-out air dams, give the Tera a sporty appearance.

From the sides, its multi-spoke alloy wheels, along with sloping roofline, and black-finished roof rails enhance its dynamic appeal. While at the rear, its upright stance is accentuated by a chunky bumper. The roof-mounted spoiler and sleek LED tail lights further add to its sporty character.
Inside, the Tera's cabin resembles that of the Kylaq, featuring a similar dashboard and center console layout, along with a freestanding infotainment system. Piano black accents are spread throughout the cabin, adding a premium touch. And lastly, the dual-tone black and grey theme further complements the Tera's persona.
Globally, the Volkswagen Tera comes equipped with features such as a 10.25-inch infotainment system, connected car tech, automatic climate control, a digital driver's display, wireless phone charging, and ambient lighting. On the safety front, the Tera gets ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).

Although the powertrain specs of the Tera are still under wraps, it is expected to be offered with turbo-petrol and flex-fuel engine options in international markets. If the Tera indeed lands up on our shores, you can expect it to be powered by the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine that churns out 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. It could be paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic torque converter.

If launched, the Volkswagen Tera's prices are expected to be around the Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. Other than the Kylaq, it will lock horns with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Syros and the Maruti Brezza.
While the Volkswagen Tera’s India plans are yet to be announced, we could expect it to debut sometime in 2026 as a sub-4m SUV, which will have a similar feature set as the Skoda Kylaq. It could even attract more buyers if priced well in the competitive segment.
Once launched in India, which one would you prefer? The Volkswagen Tera or the Skoda Kylaq? Let us know in the comments!
