Ola S1 Deliveries: Almost 4,000 Units Dispatched In December

As part of Ola’s grand ambitions to electrify Indian motoring, the Indian EV startup will have an affordable mass-market e-scooter and an electric motorcycle in its profile in the next few years. Ola has also cited interest in developing its own car and has hired key personnel from the industry for the same as well.
Sticking to the two-wheelers, the next scooter is very likely to use the S1 as its base. One way Ola can save up on costs is by offering a smaller battery and a conservative motor, the two components that rack up the most cost on any electric two-wheeler. Hence, the next e-scooter might not have 181km of ARAI-certified range like the S1 Pro, though it should still deliver at least 100km. And as we have found out on e-scooters like the TVS iQube Electric and Ather 450X, having a top speed of around 75-80kmph is just about enough for scooters.
Skimping on tech would be the other way as well. No cruise control, no speakers, no fancy touchscreen is a given, but Ola could also eliminate the keyless feature to save costs further.
It is too early to speculate what form the Ola electric motorcycle would take. Whether it would be conservative like the Revolt RV400 or outlandish like the Ultraviolette F77 remains to be seen.
We have already ridden the Ola S1 Pro and we will be bringing you our thoughts on the electric scooter on Monday 15th at 10am. So mark your calendars for the review.
