The wait is finally over! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the first proper look at the newly revealed Mahindra Thar Roxx 5 door, which has been launched in India at Rs 12.99 lakh for the base petrol model and Rs 13.99 lakh for the diesel version (both prices, ex-showroom). And for those eagerly anticipating its full price list, fret not, as Mahindra will announce the 5 door Thar Roxx's complete pricing tomorrow on August 15, 2024.
Apart from being an extended Thar with additional doors, the Roxx gets a tweaked design, more upmarket interior, plentiful feature additions and powerful engine options.
Without further ado, let’s get cracking!
By now, you must be aware how the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door looks like, courtesy of the teaser campaign from the SUV marque. But here’s a quick recap.
Up front, you get a new six-slat body coloured grille, which is flanked by a pair of round LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs. The indicators are mounted on the fenders, just like the Thar 3-door. Below all of this, you get a tough-looking bumper with contrasting silver highlights and round fog lamps.
In profile, the obvious highlight is the additional length between the wheels and the new rear door, which get C-pillar mounted handles. The Thar Roxx also sits on larger 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
At the rear, you get a new pair of square-shaped LED tail lamps and the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. As for colours, the Mahindra Thar Roxx gets the following options: grey white, black and red.
While the dashboard layout is largely similar to the standard Thar 3-door, Mahindra has made some upgrades to the Thar Roxx. For starters, the dash top is finished in soft touch materials with contrast white stitching. The headliner and seats rely on a beige upholstery, while the steering wheel has been lifted off from the XUV700 and Scorpio N.
As for the rear seats, the bench can accommodate three people and there’s even a centre headrest for the middle occupant. Mahindra has also provided it with a centre armrest and rear AC vents for added comfort. Do note that the Mahindra Thar Roxx is a 5-seater SUV and can’t be had with a third row.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx get plentiful feature additions over the already decently equipped Thar 3-door.
Highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, single-zone automatic climate control, Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof (single-pane in lower variants) and ventilated front seats.
On the safety front, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors with a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system and most importantly, ADAS.
Underneath the hood, the Thar Roxx gets the 3-door version’s 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, but with more power. You get both manual and automatic transmissions as well along with a choice of two-wheel and four-wheel drivetrains (diesel only).
Take a look at the detailed specifications here:

Obviously, the Mahindra Thar nameplate is known for its off-road capabilities and the same applies to the new Thar Roxx. For starters, the four-wheel drive version gets a low range gearbox for improved off-road prowess, especially on those steep inclines and slushy courses. It also gets mechanical aids such as electronically actuated rear differential (sends power to the wheel with more grip) and hill descent control (where you can control the vehicle speed on a downhill using the cruise control buttons).
The 5 door Mahindra Thar Roxx will lock horns with the Force Gurkha 5-door, while being a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
