We have managed to get our hands on the Kia Carens’ fuel economy figures ahead of its launch. The people mover will get the Seltos’ 115PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, and 115PS 1.5-litre diesel engine options. A 6-speed manual is offered as standard, while the diesel can be specced with a 6-speed torque converter, and the turbo-petrol can be paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Take a look at the detailed powertrain-wise fuel efficiency figures and how they compare with the Seltos:
Powertrain |
Carens Fuel Efficiency Figure |
Seltos Fuel Efficiency Figure |
1.5-litre NA Petrol MT |
15.7kmpl |
16.5kmpl |
1.4-litre Turbo-petrol MT/DCT |
16.2kmpl/16.5kmpl |
16.1kmpl/16.5kmpl |
1.5-litre Diesel MT/AT |
21.3kmpl/18.4kmpl |
21kmpl/18kmpl |
The Seltos NA petrol is more fuel efficient than the Carens.
Surprisingly, the Carens turbo-petrol MT is slightly more fuel efficient than the Seltos, while the DCT has the same figure.
The Carens diesel, both MT and AT, betters the Seltos in this department.

The Carens will go on sale later in February, and prices are expected to start from Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). This puts it in contention with the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo, and select trims of the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700, and Hyundai Alcazar.
