We have just entered the second quarter of 2026, and Volkswagen seems to have a set plan for India this year, polishing the current models and targeting the same rivals as it did before, but with a twist this time, in order to dethrone the best-sellers and offer the best package. These new models include facelifts, updated variants, a new batch of an imported sporty hatchback, and a fresh launch. 

Let's have a look at these new Volkswagen models that will hit the roads soon:

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift 

Expected Price: Rs. 11 lakh to 19 lakh (ex-showroom)

Volkswagen is all set to introduce the first facelift of its mid-size SUV, the Taigun, on 9th April 2026. The updated model is expected to feature subtle exterior styling revisions, including a new front fascia, a refreshed rear profile, and new alloy wheel designs. The overall interior layout might remain the same, but it should get some new features and an updated interior theme.

Buyers of the Taigun have never complained about the list of features, but Volkswagen might just make it even better. The Taigun facelift could borrow some of its features, like rear massaging seats, a new digital instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof from the Kushaq facelift, which has been recently launched as well.

Under the hood, the Taigun facelift is expected to remain unchanged, giving customers a choice of two turbo-petrol engine options, although what could be a new addition is an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for the 1-litre TSI engine. This is the same transmission that is also offered on the Kushaq facelift. What’s left to see is how Volkswagen prices the Taigun facelift and whether it attracts the expected crowd that the company is targeting. 

Volkswagen Virtus Facelift 

Expected Price: Rs. 10.5 lakh to 18.5 lakh (ex-showroom)

Volkswagen had revealed earlier its plan for India in 2026, and we do know that the Virtus facelift is on the cards. Multiple test mules of the Virtus facelift have been spotted lately, which hints that the launch might be close. These test mules hint that the overall silhouette and dimensions of the car are expected to remain the same, but it could sport a refreshed exterior design and new alloy wheels as well. 

On the inside, it might see new trim pieces and updated colour schemes for the upholstery, but the overall dashboard layout is expected to remain the same. In terms of features, the Virtus facelift is expected to borrow much of its equipment from its siblings, the Kushaq and Taigun, which might also include several segment-first features for the Virtus.

The Volkswagen Virtus is loved by enthusiasts, and the updated model should continue with the same two turbo-petrol engine options as the current model. What might be new is an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for the 1-litre TSI engine. The 1.5-litre TSI engine should continue to be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG only. Volkswagen is expected to reveal the new updated Virtus in the second quarter (Q2) of the year, with the launch happening soon after. 

Volkswagen Tera (Based On The Skoda Kylaq)

Expected Price: Rs. 8 lakh to 15 lakh (ex-showroom)

Volkswagen is reportedly working to bring a new sub-4m SUV, possibly named the Tera, to the Indian market. The Tera would be Volkswagen’s answer to ever-increasing sub-4m SUV demand. The car is expected to carry the very essence of German engineering with top-notch safety, performance, and driving feel.

The Volkswagen Tera has already made its way in multiple international markets, so we have some idea about what the car might look like. It will be based on the Skoda Kylaq's underpinnings but will have a completely new identity. The front fascia of international models features slim headlights with LED DRLs and a large grille integrated in the bumper with a black contrast finish. The rear profile gets a sloping roof treatment, similar to that of a coupe, and sports connected gloss black trim with LED taillights.

In terms of features, the Tera could sport an all-new dashboard design with a free-standing touchscreen infotainment screen, digital driver’s display, a sunroof, ADAS, connected car tech, powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a wireless phone charger. 

The upcoming Tera is expected to be offered in a single engine option, which would be the 1-litre TSI turbo petrol. This engine is expected to be available in both a  6-speed manual and an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission option. We expect the launch of the Volkswagen Tera to take place around the third quarter (Q4) of this year, during the Diwali festive season. 

Volkswagen Golf GTI (New Batch)

Expected Price: Rs. 45 lakh to 50 lakh (ex-showroom)

Volkswagen had launched the Golf GTI in India last year for the first time ever, and enthusiasts loved it! The Golf GTI was imported as a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) with a limited batch of 100 units, and the car was sold out for the year quickly. This huge fan following made Volkswagen rethink its decision to bring in a new batch of the car, and, looking at the demand, Volkswagen has confirmed that a new batch of the Golf GTI will be coming to India this year. Although this time around, it might benefit from the India-EU FTA deal, and could be more affordably priced than before. 

The Golf GTI is expected to be powered by the same 2-litre turbo petrol engine, mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The sporty hatchback can go from 0-100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds and has a speedometer-indicated top speed of 267 kmph. The launch of the new batch of the Golf GTI in India has been planned for the third quarter (Q3) of this year by Volkswagen.

Volkswagen Tayron (Standard Variants)

Expected Price: Rs. 39 lakh to 45 lakh (ex-showroom)

Volkswagen had launched the Tayron in India a few months back, but that was the more sporty R-Line trim. Volkswagen is also preparing to launch the standard variants of the Tayron in India, which might carry a slightly lower price tag, but this step will help Volkswagen to appeal the Tayron to a wider audience. The standard variants of the Tayron will have the same dimensions but will differ a bit in styling. These are expected to sport sober and elegant looks instead of sporty elements. The interior is also expected to remain similar to the R-Line variant, except for the sporty trims that will not be a part of the package in the standard variants. 

The Tayron would continue to be powered by the 2-litre TSI turbo petrol engine, mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Interested buyers should expect Volkswagen to launch the standard variants of the Tayron around the Diwali festive season in the fourth quarter (Q4) this year.

Volkswagen’s plan for 2026 seems clear, polishing the products that are already being loved by the Indian market by offering more features and modernisation with them. Its new sub-4m entrant is expected to bring a lot of heat in its segment, while the other four products have already proven themselves in their respective segments. There are still no plans of launching an EV in the Indian market this year, so for buyers who want an EV with the VW badge, you’re gonna have to wait a little more. 

Volkswagen is also actively working on improving the aftersales, and with the recent India-EU FTA deal in the picture, some parts are also expected to drop in value, which could ultimately make ownership more economical. That being said, all the models look promising, and with the right price and market positioning, they have the stamina to appeal to a wider audience and attract sales, which will help them to gain a better market share.
