The upcoming compact SUV will be a brand new product that has been made specifically for the Indian market

  • Honda names its upcoming compact SUV the Elevate.
  • It’s slated for a global reveal in June in India.
  • Expected features include a large infotainment, ventilated front seats and ADAS.
  • Should get 1.5-litre petrol and strong-hybrid powertrain options.
  • There won’t be a diesel engine offered with the Elevate.
  • Prices could start around the Rs 11 lakh mark.

It’s been ages since we got a brand spanking new Honda that has been built from scratch. But soon, the Japanese marque will be launching a new compact SUV that has already been teased and slated for reveal in India in June. Today, Honda has announced that the name of its upcoming SUV will be called the Elevate. This name is a departure from Honda’s usual SUV naming nomenclature, which has the letter V as its ending like CR-V, HR-V, WR-V and BR-V.

The Honda Elevate has been developed specifically for the Indian market. It will slot in the very popular compact SUV space that consists of rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Recent spy shots have already given us a glimpse of what the Elevate would look like and you can take a closer look at this report

Since the new Honda Elevate slots in a space where each and every feature matters, you can expect it to come loaded to the gills. Expected kit includes a large touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a sunroof, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats and a wireless phone charger.

On the safety front, it should get up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts and up to six airbags.

Honda has axed diesel engines from its portfolio and the upcoming SUV would be a petrol offering. It should get the 121PS 1.5-litre petrol and 126PS 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrains from the City. The petrol engine gets a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a CVT while the hybrid gets an e-CVT.

The Honda Elevate is expected to go on sale in August and we suspect its prices could start around Rs 11 lakh. Apart from the above-mentioned rivals, the Elevate will lock horns with the VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor and the soon-to-be-launched Citroen C3 Aircross.
