FIA’s new rules for 2026 have pushed Audi to go racing in Formula 1.
Porsche is also set to make an announcement soon regarding its entry into F1.
Audi’s F1 team will be headed by Adam Baker.
The power unit will be designed, developed and built from scratch at the brand's Motorsport centre in Neuburg, Germany.
The whole motorsport fraternity had been waiting for the official announcement from Audi confirming its entry into Formula 1. The Germans are done making us wait as they have officially announced their entry into Formula 1 in 2026. Audi will race for the Formula 1 championship and it will be doing so with its own power unit, developed at its motorsport headquarters in Neuburg, Germany.

Waiting for official confirmation from Audi, and its solid plans to set foot in what is the most prestigious form of motor racing, is finally bearing fruit. Audi’s announcement comes shortly after the FIA’s approval of new engine regulations for the 2026 season. Audi makes it clear that the key reason to go racing has more to do with the new rules that prioritise sustainability and cost-efficiency. The focus will be more on electrification as well since Formula 1 has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
That out of the way, we all know the increasing popularity of the sport. And the fact that it is one of the most-viewed events in the whole world pushed Audi to take the big leap. Another reason for this announcement is also because the Formula 1 calendar goes through all major countries where Audi has a solid market presence. The sport targets the younger audience more and it is now experiencing the highest growth rates in social media when pitched against other sports.

At the end of the day, Audi entering Formula 1 will be a huge boost for their brand image, and a successful career or a championship position will solidify that further. Adam Baker will head the Audi F1 team as the CEO out of its motorsport centre in Neuburg an der Donau, close to Audi’s main base in Ingolstadt. As of now, Audi has not revealed any racing partners for the 2026 season, but they have hinted that the announcement will happen by the end of this year.
Rumours suggest that Audi will be shaking hands with Sauber, but there is no official confirmation. Meanwhile, we are yet to hear from Porsche on its plan, although the brand is reportedly planning to buy 50 per cent stakes in Red Bull. With both these brands getting into the mix, things should definitely get interesting in 2026.
