Maruti seems to be on a mission to make safer cars, and that also includes offering a good set of safety features as standard fitment. The good news is that the Indian marque has now updated the Baleno and Ertiga with 6 airbags as standard. Earlier, the Baleno used to come with 6 airbags only with the top two variants, while the Ertiga used to get only 4 airbags with the higher- spec variants.
The Baleno used to come with 6 airbags with only the Zeta and Alpha variants, but now the lower-spec variants too get the benefit of the extra four airbags compromising side and curtain airbags.

The Ertiga only used to get 4 airbags with the top-spec ZXI+ variant with front and side airbags. With this six airbags update, buyers will find more value in the lower-spec variants and might not consider opting for higher variants just for the added safety kit.

Apart from this, Maruti has also increased the prices of the Baleno and Ertiga by 0.5 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively. The Baleno’s price range of Rs 6.70 lakh to Rs 9.92 lakh (ex-showroom), will see a price increase of anywhere from around Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000.
The Ertiga’s current price range of Rs 8.97 lakh to Rs 13.26 lakh will see a greater hike of around Rs 12,000 to Rs about Rs 18,000.

The Baleno comes with a 90 PS 1.2-litre petrol engine that can be paired with either a 5-speed manal or a 5-speed AMT. The Ertiga comes with a 103 PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both Baleno and Ertiga also come with a factory-fitted CNG kit with the manual variants.
Safety has become top priority, and with growing awareness about it, no one wants to buy a car that is unsafe. The Baleno has come a long way from having a bad reputation in the safety department to literally proving its mettle. Its impressive safety rating will surely give buyers more confidence and peace-of-mind, while the addition of 6 standard airbags will provide more value across the variants. The Ertiga is a very popular car on our roads, used by cabbies as well. With so many people using it, its safety is important and now with extra airbags, the Ertiga too would be a more solid deal.

As for the price hike: Do you think it is justified? Let us know in the comments section below.
