Kawasaki Motors Europe has announced the release of a new model, the Ninja 7 HEV or Hybrid Electric Vehicle, on the 6th of October 2023. The Ninja 7 HEV is a first-of-its-kind hybrid electric motorcycle that combines a 451cc parallel-twin engine on the combustion side with a 9-kilowatt(12PS) traction motor with a 48-volt battery pack on the electric side.
When it comes to performance the bike is able to output a claimed power level of 43.5 kilowatts(close to 58.3PS) that can be increased to 51.1 kW(around 68.6PS) when the e-Boost feature is engaged. This feature first made an appearance on the recently unveiled Z e-1 and e-1 models.
The design of the bike is similar to a 650-700cc bike in terms of size and offers similar performance figures, which might be why Kawasaki decided to go with the name ‘Ninja 7.’ Kawasaki claims that the bike will be able to deliver a fuel efficiency that will be close to what one can expect from a motorcycle in the 250cc segment. We don’t have the full specifications yet but Kawasaki has given us a list of features that will be included in this model, such as:
A full-colour TFT display that’s similar to the one used by the new Kawasaki e-1 and Z e-1.
An Automatic Launch Position Finder that automatically selects the first gear, making the bike ready to go while it is at a standstill.
An idle stop that stops the combustion engine when the bike is still, to conserve fuel. This feature can already be found on some scooters but isn’t common on motorcycles yet.
Push-button shifting on the handlebar and no clutch lever.
Three riding modes: Eco Hybrid, Ev and Sport Hybrid.
Walk mode, offering low-speed reverse and forward option, which was first seen on the Ninja e-1 and Z e-1.
With this announcement Kawasaki has given us a glimpse of what motorcycles of the future might look like.
