Tata has unveiled the 2023 Nexon ahead of its launch on September 14. This is a facelift version of the existing SUV but comes with a host of new updates inside and out. The Nexon will come in four broad trims: Smart, Pure, Creative and Fearless. Let us take a look at what to expect in the entry-level Smart model.

As this is the base-spec variant, there are bound to be some features suitable for the entry-level trim, but the car still comes with LED headlamps and DRLs, LED tail lamps, Multi Drive modes (City, Sport and Eco) and the new two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo.

In terms of safety features, Tata is offering six airbags, electronic stability program, ISOFIX child seat anchors, reverse parking sensors and central locking.
That said, despite getting the LED headlamps and all, customers opting for this variant will have to miss out on the infotainment system. Also, the Nexon Smart comes with only front power windows. Rear occupants will have to manage with manual ones.

Thankfully, Tata is offering a Smart + trim as well, which sits one step above Smart. This adds a 7-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, all power windows and electrically adjustable ORVMs. Further, there are steering mounted controls as well as a shark fin antenna. But the best part is that you can opt for a sunroof in this trim, right from the base variant!

The Nexon base variant will only be offered with the 120PS 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor with a 5-speed manual gearbox option. Customers requiring a different engine-gearbox combo, including turbo-petrol DCT and diesel powertrains will have to opt for higher variants.

We suspect the Tata Nexon to be priced from around the Rs 8 lakh mark (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Nissan Magnite and upcoming Mahindra XUV300 facelift.
