Toyota Glanza 2022 Walkaround | Get It Over The Baleno? |...

Select Toyota dealerships have commenced unofficial bookings of the facelifted Glanza hatchback. Scheduled to go on sale in March, the Glanza is essentially the rebadged 2022 Baleno. However, this time around, Toyota has pulled out all the stops to ensure the hatchback gets a distinctive identity.

From the images, you can see that the Glanza is all masked up at the front and rear (possibly to dodge the wretched virus). What we can spot, however, is that the DRLs are in a single line and not in the new ‘arrow’ design, unlike the Baleno. It also gets 8-spoke dual-tone alloys instead of the revised 10-spoke units in the Maruti. Also, we think Toyota will provide the hatch with a redesigned bumper and grille.

Now, here’s the 2022 Baleno’s cabin, for reference. While no changes will be made to the design, Toyota could give it different colour schemes and upholstery. It will also get the new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that debuted in the Baleno.

The Glanza should get all the features as the 2022 Baleno, including the head-up display, 360-degree camera, connected car tech with Alexa support (telematics only), six airbags, and electronic stability control. Things that will be retained include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, auto-LED headlights, and cruise control.

If the Baleno is anything to go by, the Glanza should also get just the 90PS 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine with idle-start/stop tech. Also, like the Maruti hatch, the Glanza could get a 5-speed manual and an optional AMT. There won’t be any mild-hybrid tech nor CVT this time around, which is a bit of a downer, in my opinion.

And finally, like the current Glanza, the upcoming model could only be based on the Baleno’s top-spec trims, with prices possibly starting from Rs 7.5 lakh. This would lock it in a feud with the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, and the Hyundai i20.
