Want Swedish luxury in a small, electric package? The EX30 might just be worth waiting for!

Volvo’s smallest EV, the EX30, is all set to arrive on our shores in late 2025. It will be the Swedish automaker’s most affordable EV in India and will slot in below the EX40 SUV. Chances are that the EX30 could also be assembled locally to bring down the cost, but that’s just speculation at the moment. However, the EX30, with its impressive package, is definitely going to be a top pick among luxury EV buyers if priced correctly. Ahead of its launch in the second half of 2025, here are the top 5 things you should know about the EX30:

Design

The EX30 SUV carries Volvo’s modern design language, featuring minimalistic styling. Being an EV, it gets a closed-off grille, which looks neatly done, with the Volvo logo taking centre stage. As with most Volvo’s, it gets the Thor Hammer-shaped LED DRLs.

Volvo EX30 Side Profile

The Volvo EX30 is just over 4.2 metres in length (almost the size of a Hyundai Creta). It sits on large 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, which sit well within the rounded-off wheel arches. For a sporty appeal, you also get contrasting blacked-out elements, including the roof, ORVMs and pillars.

The rear comes with connected LED lighting, which has a stylish and modern appeal to it. Moreover, it also comes with long vertical lighting elements, which will remind you of the flagship EX90 full-size SUV. It gets a little roof-mounted spoiler for a sporty appeal.

Interior

To complement the exterior, the minimalist design has been carried forward to the interior as well. As with most contemporary cars, the EX30 also gets a massive screen - a portrait 12.3-inch touchscreen display! Fun fact: The EX30’s screen is larger than the XC90, which is currently Volvo’s flagship SUV in India at the moment. What’s not fun is that there are hardly any physical buttons, and you might have to rely solely on the infotainment for most functions. All the AC vents are vertically oriented, and you also get plenty of well-thought-out storage spaces for your bottles and cold drink cans.

Features

There is no shortage in this department. The EX30 globally comes with all the premium amenities that you would expect from an entry-level luxury EV. The top features include wireless Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, heated front seats (we can expect ventilated seats for the India-spec model), NFC smart card key, a branded Harman Kardon sound system, a dual-zone climate control, and an air purifier.

In terms of safety, being a Volvo is enough. It is equipped with multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, rain-sensing wipers, hill hold assist, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features.

Powertrain

In global markets, the EX30 is offered with multiple powertrains. It would be interesting to see which one (or more) Volvo introduces in India! Here is a look at all the powertrains options:

Expected Price And Rivals

The EX30 is expected to be priced around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Mahindra XEV 9e, BYD Seal, and BMW iX1 LWB. The EX30 will be a compelling option, considering its feature-loaded cabin, modern design, and impressive powertrain options.

The EX40 is currently priced in India at Rs 55 lakh, so if the EX30 undercuts its larger sibling by around Rs 15 lakh, then it would definitely be an option to consider for the package it offers.
