It is an electric estate that’s offered in overseas markets. Like any other MG, it’s brimmed with features

  • MG 5 electric estate displayed at Auto Expo 2023.
  • Sleek aesthetics and minimalist design look good.
  • Top features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen, ADAS, and vehicle-to-load functionality.
  • Powered by a 156PS electric motor and 61kWh battery pack.
  • Delivers up to 524km WLTP-claimed range depending on driving cycle.

Auto Expo 2023 is on at full steam and one of the carmaker’s garnering attention with its interesting model is Morris Garages. The Chinese carmaker has now taken the wraps off the 5, an electric estate, at the ongoing show. Interestingly, this model becomes the first-ever electric estate to be showcased in the country.

Like the 4, the 5 electric estate is a vehicle that’s built from scratch as an electric vehicle. Its overall sleek aesthetics and minimalist design actually makes the 5 an EV that looks and will age well. In fact, from the front-end, the 5, with its sleek grille and swept back headlamps, looks like a toned down EV6

The cabin is equally upmarket, thanks to the minimalist design and use of light colours. It also gets a high central console, giving the cabin a cockpit-like feel, while a large cubby hole below it gives it plenty of storage space. The interior is spacious; and like any estate, the 5 has a large boot with over 550 litres of volume.

Like any MG, you get a tonne of features with the 5. Including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, a digital driver’s display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, heated front seats, connected car tech and keyless entry with push button start. Passenger safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and a full suite of ADAS.

Internationally, the 5 is offered in a single Long Range variant. So it gets a 156PS electric motor that draws power from a 61kWh battery pack, helping it accelerate from nought to 96kmph in 7.3 seconds. Depending on the driving cycle, the 5 boasts a WLTP-claimed range of up to 524km. It also has fast charging and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.

The MG 5 has been showcased as part of the carmaker’s international lineup. The 5 will be an alternative to models like the MG 4, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and VW ID.3.
