The Harrier EV is set to arrive on June 3! Does it have what it takes to rival the popular XEV 9e? Let’s find out.

Tata Harrier EV Spied Undisguised Ahead Of Launch, Here’s All You highlights

The much-anticipated Tata Harrier EV is all set to hit our shores on June 3. Recently, it was spied testing undisguised and we suspect that it could be the final rounds of testing ahead of its launch. The Harrier EV will be positioned above the Curvv EV in Tata’s lineup and will be based on the Acti.ev platform.

If you are in the market looking for a mid-sized family-oriented EV, then here’s all you need to know about the Harrier EV:

Design - A Familiar Sight?

Yes, it is! In terms of styling, the Harrier EV looks quite similar to the ICE-powered Harrier, as the body style of both iterations remains identical. That being said, the Harrier EV sports some EV-specific design elements that help set itself apart from the ICE sibling. The connected LED DRLs give the fascia a nice and modern finish and its blanked-off grille gives it a minimalist look. The bumper has an aggressive design which makes the SUV look sharp.

The Harrier EV sits on aero-optimised 5-spoke alloy wheels and the EV badge on the front doors remind you that you have picked the non-diesel version.

The rear features connected LED tail lights that have a familiar design. A shark fin antenna and a roof-mounted rear spoiler add a touch of sportiness, and the ‘Harrier EV’ lettering reminds you of the powertrain. The bumper looks slightly beefed-up and the silver skid plate adds to the rugged appeal of the chunky SUV.

Interior And Features

Just like the exterior, there are similarities between the interior design as well. The dashboard design and layout remain identical, however, you get a different colour theme here that makes the EV’s interior look fresher. The familiar chunky four-spoke steering wheel which houses the illuminated Tata logo has been carried over, but the display here showcases EV-specific graphics.

In terms of features, the Harrier EV gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats and a powered tailgate. It also features a summon mode that allows the SUV to be moved forward and backwards using the key.

Passenger safety is taken care of by level-2 ADAS, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, a 360-degree camera, hill hold assist, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic parking brake with auto hold function and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Suspension

The Harrier EV has been spotted testing with independent suspension. This suspension setup would help in the ride quality and could also be a great setup for Indian roads, especially when combined with the all-wheel drive setup.

Powertrain

Most of the powertrain specifications are yet to be disclosed, but we do know that the Harrier EV gets a dual-motor setup, with one electric motor mounted on each axle. This would make the Harrier EV, sport an All-Wheel-Drive or QWD, as Tata likes to call it.

What’s impressive is that the electric motors churn out up to 500 Nm of torque. The Harrier EV is expected to come with a claimed range of over 500 km.

We may also see a single motor variant, with a longer range.

Price And Rivals

The Tata Harrier EV is likely to retail from around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Mahindra XEV 9e and BYD Atto 3.

The Harrier EV shares most of its design with the Harrier ICE, but that’s not a bad thing. The interior is well-equipped but again, it is not very different from what we have already seen. However, its dual-motor setup and 500 Nm torque add to its appeal, and if it is capable of delivering a good enough range, then it would likely become a compelling choice among EV buyers.
