Mahindra has trademarked a bunch of names – XUV 1XO, XUV 3XO, XUV 5XO and XUV 7XO – hinting at a possibility that they could be used for its upcoming electric vehicles. While other details are slim at the moment, this nomenclature hints that it could be used for the upcoming Mahindra models that will have both ICE and electric powertrain options.

Mahindra EV Names

A point to note is that all these names do have one thing in common with Mahindra’s existing naming nomenclature: they all end with an ‘O,’ just like the SUV marque’s existing offerings such as the Mahindra XUV700 (pronounced 7 double O), XUV400 (pronounced 4 double O), Bolero Neo and Bolero

At the moment, Mahindra’s sole electric offering is the XUV400, which has recently been updated with a brand new interior and more features. But come December 2024, the manufacturer’s electric portfolio is set to be in full swing with launches from the XUV and BE (Born Electric) range.

The XUV.e8, which is simply the all-electric version of the XUV700, is likely to be the first. Following it could be the XUV.e9, which is the SUV-coupe version of the XUV.e8. What remains to be seen is if Mahindra will use the XUV 7XO name for the upcoming electric XUV700 instead of XUV.e8, something which can be known closer to launch.

Post these two models, we’ll also be seeing standalone EVs based on a dedicated platform, which is the Born Electric range, such as the often spotted Mahindra BE 05. You can read more about Mahindra’s upcoming EVs in this report.
