The Nexon CNG has been launched finally, and Tata has loaded it to the brim with premium features. It also gets a turbo-petrol engine, which is a first for a CNG vehicle in India. In this article, it will go head to head with the popular Maruti Brezza CNG, which is the preferred choice among many CNG SUV buyers. Which subcompact CNG SUV is catered for your needs and requirements? Let’s find out:

Tata Nexon CNG |
Maruti Brezza CNG |
Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 8.99 lakh to Rs 14.59 lakh |
Rs 9.29 lakh to Rs 12.26 lakh |
The starting price of the two are very similar, and there is only Rs 30,000 separating the two. However, top-spec variants of the Nexon CNG are over Rs 2 lakh more expensive. So, does the extra money for the top-spec Nexon CNG make sense? Let’s get to know that:
Both being subcompact SUVs look similar in size and come with modern design elements. Let’s take a detailed look at their dimensions:

As seen above, there is nothing to separate the two in terms of length. The Nexon is slightly wider, while the Brezza is taller. On paper, their wheelbases are nearly identical which equates to similar space inside the cabin.
A point to note is that the Nexon CNG is offered with a dual-cylinder setup which means there is comparably less compromise in terms of boot space. The Brezza on the other side comes with a single CNG cylinder which eats up into the boot space. The Nexon CNG’s boot space stands at 321 litres, while that of the Brezza has not been disclosed by Maruti.

As mentioned earlier, the Nexon’s CNG kit is paired with a turbo-petrol unit, which is a first on a CNG car in Inida. The Nexon’s engine is smaller in size, but since it is turbo-charged, it produces more output. With the Nexon, you also get an extra gear with the 6-speed manual, while the Brezza gets a 5-speed manual unit. However, the Brezza offers the better claimed mileage in this comparison.
The Nexon CNG and Brezza CNG both make for a practical buy and you can consider them if you are in the market looking for a subcompact SUV with a factory-fitted CNG kit. But the Nexon has an advantage with its dual-cylinder technology, which frees up more space in the boot and will be the option to consider if you’ll find yourself going on long road trips with the family more frequently .
Nexon has an advantage in terms of creature comforts too as the Brezza misses out on a few, including both comfort and safety ones. It offers the greater claimed efficiency, but makes less power and torque compared to the Nexon CNG. While most of the parameters favour the Nexon, let’s not forget that the Brezza is more affordable than the top-spec Nexon by a significant margin.
So, the more practical purchase here would be the Nexon CNG in its top-spec avatar, but only if you can afford to pay the premium. If not, then the Brezza top-spec variant is a good enough option to consider as well.
