The diesel engine is likely to be carried over from the Mahindra Marazzo, where it makes 122PS and 300Nm. Both will be offered with only a 6-speed manual transmission at the time of launch. Talking about the selection of petrol or diesel car completely depends upon your daily driving pattern. If you are driving more than 50 kms in a day than a diesel variant would be a fruitful choice to go with. Else, if you are driving less than 50 kms on daily basis than a petrol variant would be a worthy choice. The price of a diesel variant is comparatively more than petrol variant and yes there is a difference in cost of maintenance also.In order to churn more details regarding the driving experience may check the following link:Mahindra XUV300 Review: First Drive https://www.zigwheels.com/reviews-advice/reviews/mahindra-xuv300-review-first-drive/32937/

If you are travelling less than 50-60km a day, opt for a petrol car instead of a diesel. With the extra Rs 1-1.50 lakh spent on a diesel purchase, you can actually drive a similar petrol car for as many as two years! So, do your math carefully. A diesel usually makes sense if you are driving above 60/70km a day. • Q. Will XUV 300 come with petrol variant

The XUV300 will be offered with both diesel and petrol engines. And while Mahindra hasn’t confirmed the powertrains yet, we expect it to launch with the 1.5-litre diesel unit borrowed from the Marazzo (121PS/300Nm). As for the petrol engine it will likely feature a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor, which is being co-developed with SsangYong. In addition, it could be the same powertrain that Mahindra also will supply to Ford as a part of its partnership. At the time of the launch, the engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Mahindra hasn't confirmed if we'll get any automatic variants yet, but we expect it to follow suit given that each one of its competitors already have an automatic variant.

The XUV300 will be available with the Marrazzo's 1.5-litre diesel engine along with a brand new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Mahindra has not revealed the specs of the engines except for their torque figures. While the diesel is rated at 300Nm, same as the Marazzo (123PS/300Nm), the petrol is rated at 200Nm. Both the engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. There won’t be an automatic transmission option at launch.
