This could be the same strategy employed by Honda when they sold the 4th-gen City alongside the 5th-gen model

  • Likely to be offered in a stripped-down base trim only.

  • The front grille, and bumpers could get slight tweaks judging by the camouflage.

  • Feature list likely to remain largely unchanged barring a couple of additions.

  • Likely to be limited to the 120PS 2.2-litre diesel engine.

  • Next-gen Scorpio to launch in India by mid-2022.

After the Mahindra XUV700, the carmaker’s next blockbuster launch is set to be the next iteration of the Scorpio in early 2022. But recently, the existing model was spotted with a bit of camouflage, which suggests that Mahindra could introduce a midlife refresh and sell it alongside the new Scorpio. This would be similar to what Honda did when it continued selling the 4th-gen City alongside the 5th-gen model. To make it more affordable than the new model, it will likely be a stripped down version of the SUV.

The model had a camo wrap on the front grille, bumpers, and the lower portion of the doors suggest slight updates to the SUV. It could be the base-spec S3+ trim considering the model had steel wheels and unpainted body cladding.

Expect most of the cabin to remain as is, barring a couple of feature additions, and new upholstery options. The next gen Scoprio’s interior on the other hand is set to be much more upmarket which we’ve detailed in this report.

Since the facelifted Scorpio could be limited to the base-spec trim, it may soldier on with the lower tuned 120PS 2.2-litre diesel engine that comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The current-gen Mahindra Scorpio retails at prices ranging between 12.49 lakh to Rs 17.14 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Meanwhile, the new Scorpio will be a rugged alternative to compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector.
