It's nothing like we've ever seen before, and considering Volvo's recent streak we're expecting stellar pricing as well

Volvo V90 Cross Country

Volvo's knack of exploiting some truly unexplored niches brings the V90 Cross Country to our shores. The date's been set for July 12, and it's safe to assume deliveries will begin almost immediately.

The Cross Country has an additional 65mm of ride height compared to the standard V90 estate. What further differentiates it aesthetically is the rugged-looking matte-black cladding. Other elements such as the all-LED headlamps with the 'Thor's Hammer' daytime running lamps, the LED tail lamps and the clean fuss-free bodywork is carried over as is. The India-spec Cross Country will ride on 20-inch alloy wheels shod with 245/45R20 tyres.

Volvo V90 Cross Country Interior

The interiors will induce a sense of deja vu if you've been inside an XC90 or the S90. The same minimalistic design theme is carried forward, which means there are just eight buttons on the centre console. Everything else is controlled by the big 9.0-inch touchscreen that sits slap bang in the middle of the dash. The other screen you will be paying attention to is a 12-inch unit that replaces analogue meters. Other highlights include front massaging seats, a massive panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery and four-zone climate control.

On the engine front, we've got the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that already does duty on other Volvos. But, unlike the S90 sedan that gets 190PS and 400Nm on tap, the V90 Cross Country gets 235PS and 480Nm to play with. More importantly, it also gets all-wheel drive to back up its 'go-anywhere' credentials.

Rivals? Well, quite simply there aren't any. It's in a class of one, but owing to its price (which we hear should be between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 60 lakh) it will face heat from luxury sedans and SUVs alike.
