  • Pre-launch bookings are open for a token amount of Rs 11,000.

  • 2-year/20,000km free maintenance package offered on pre-launch bookings.

  • Like the Glanza, it is expected to be priced lower than the car it is based on.

Toyota has officially announced a launch date for its entry in the sub-4m SUV space. The Urban Cruiser, which is based on Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza as part of the joint venture between the two carmakers, is all set to be launched on September 23.

Toyota had recently opened pre-launch bookings for a token amount of Rs 11,000. To make the wait even more exciting, the carmaker is offering a 2-year/20,000km free maintenance package for customers who book the Urban Cruiser before its launch.

Unlike the Glanza, the Urban Cruiser is more than just a rebadged version of the Maruti. It gets Toyota-specific styling changes to its front fascia like a new grille and muscular housing for the fog lamps.

Inside, it is largely similar to the car it is based on. The only exception is the new coffee-brown colour scheme. For more information in terms of the layout and features of the Urban Cruiser, head here

Under the hood, there is nothing new to see. Like the Vitara Brezza, the Urban Cruiser will be powered by the same 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine with the additional mild-hybrid system backing in the automatic variants. Transmission options include the same 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter offered with the Vitara Brezza. The Urban Cruiser will be offered in three variants that are expected to be based on the Vitara Brezza’s VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+ trims.

The Urban Cruiser is the second car to be based on a Maruti Suzuki after the Glanza (Baleno). It will also offer a fairly superior 2-year/1 lakh km warranty compared to the Brezza’s 2-year/40,000km package. Aside from the car it is based on, the sub-4m SUV space will see the Urban Cruiser face some stiff competition from the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, and the upcoming Kia Sonet
