Duster accounts for 5,146 units; company achieves more than 13-fold growth year on year

Renault Duster

It’s ironic really how it took a Duster to change the fortunes a foreign car manufacturer here in India, just when they thought they were ‘done and dusted’. While Renault’s badge engineered Pulse and Scala have helped them level up a fair bit, the numbers clearly suggest that it is the Duster which continues to swallow over 82 percent of the French car maker’s domestic sales each month.

Particularly in the month of May, Renault sold a total of 6,300 units, of which 5,146 units were registered in favour of the hugely popular compact SUV. Compared to 482 units sold in May last year, this is marks a steady year-on-year growth of more than 13 fold for Renault despite a shrinking domestic market (Read : Renault Duster First Drive).

Commenting on this milestone, Sumit Sawhney, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Renault, said “In spite of challenging market conditions, Renault continues to pursue a strong focus on growth in India, with an aim of at least doubling last year’s sales in 2013.”

"The growing acceptability of Renault brand among customers is being driven by our strong product portfolio and extensive dealer network, while the Renault Duster continues to retains the top spot as the most popular SUV in India. With such strong pillars of growth, we remain confident of our continued success in the Indian automotive market in the near term."

Besides the top selling Duster, Renault’s sedan the Scala sold 670 units, the Pulse 410 units, the Fluence 71 units and the almost in oblivion Koleos just 3 units in the month of May.
