Range Rover Evoque Convertible Coming Soon

With manufacturers gunning to find niches within niches, the auto industry has dished out some properly unique vehicles. Ranking high on that list is the Range Rover Evoque Convertible. Yep, it's exactly what you think it is, Range Rover's smallest SUV minus the roof but with a boatload of swag. And here’s the good news, it's coming to India later this month. On March 27, to be precise.

The Evoque's youthful design is carried over as is and the Convertible doesn't look any different save for the obvious lack of a roof. It gets a folding fabric top with a Z-fold mechanism. Land Rover says it is the longest and widest fitted to any vehicle. The roof takes all of 18 seconds to hide away into the rear and 21 seconds to latch back into place. Like most modern-day convertibles, this can be done on the go at speeds of up to 30mph (48kmph). The Brits haven't sacrificed a lot of boot space to make room for the roof either. There's a 251-litre boot on offer, which should be enough for a couple of matching Gucci bags.

The Convertible will be available in the top-spec HSE Dynamic variant only. This means it'll be loaded with all the goodies you'd want, including 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, leather upholstery and a 360-degree camera.

On the engine front, there's just one. A 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol motor that makes 240PS of power and 340Nm of torque. Land Rover claims the Evoque convertible will hit 100kmph in a smidge over 8 seconds and top out at 217kmph. Not eye-watering numbers, but this one's more about grace than pace anyway.

How much? Ah, good question. We’ll get the answer on March 27. But if we had to place a wager, we'd bet on a sticker price north of Rs 70 lakh (ex-showroom).
