The Maruti Swift rival is likely to borrow a 5-speed AMT from the Santro

  • Automatic variant likely to get 5-speed AMT from Santro.
  • Will get a revised cabin with bits borrowed from Santro.
  • Hyundai likely to introduce CNG variant of the Grand i10.

Back in November, we brought you spy shots of the next-gen Grand i10 testing on the streets of Pune. Now, it has been spotted testing again, revealing the heavily camouflaged interior of what looks like a top-spec automatic variant of the next-gen Grand i10.

The next-gen Grand i10 is likely to be launched with a 5-speed AMT instead of the 4-speed torque convertor that’s available on the version that’s currently on sale. The 5-speed AMT is likely to be the same unit found in the Santro as the gear lever of both cars are identical. Considering the huge demand for CNG variants of the Santro, Hyundai is also likely to introduce the next-gen Grand i10 with the option of a CNG kit. The current-gen Grand i10 had a CNG variant which had a limited run from 2016 to 2017. The next-gen Grand i10 is likely to retain the same set of engines as the current hatchback - a 1.2-litre petrol unit that puts out 83PS of power and 113Nm of torque and a 1.2-litre diesel motor that produces 75PS and 190Nm.

The latest spy shot seems to be of the top-spec variant of the hatchback. The car seen here gets dual-tone alloy wheels, front fog lamps, and turn indicators on the ORVMs. Also seen behind the top-spec variant is what looks like a lower variant of the Grand i10 with steel wheels.

This is also the first time that the interior of the next-gen Grand i10 has been spied. Although it is heavily camouflaged, it is expected to borrow parts from its siblings. For example, the turbine AC vents and the gear knob are from the Santro while the steering wheel seems to be a direct lift from Hyundai’s upcoming sub-4 metre SUV, the Venue. We also expect the next-gen Grand i10 to feature the same floating touchscreen infotainment system as the Venue. Given Hyundai's habit of adding segment first features, the carmaker could also add cruise control and various other features to give it an edge over rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford Figo.

The next-gen Hyundai Grand i10 is likely to be priced from Rs 5.2 lakh for the base-spec petrol variant to Rs 7.9 lakh for the top-spec diesel variant.
