The Mahindra XUV700 Ebony Edition is the latest dark-themed mid-size SUV in our market. While on the exterior, the changes are not that evident, the cabin of the XUV700 receives a revamp. Among its key competitors is the MG Hector Blackstorm Edition that showcases blacked-out styling inside out, giving it a distinct identity.
Planning to get one of these SUVs? We compare their exterior and interior appearance to see which black edition looks better.
Between the two, the MG Hector Blackstorm instantly grabs attention with its bold fascia. While both feature a blacked-out front grille, the Hector Blackstorm's dark chrome elements stand out, and the red accents along the headlight housings and ORVMs add a touch of contrast. The XUV700 Ebony Edition, on the other hand, appears as a more blacked-out version of the standard model, distinguished by the badging on the front fenders and tailgate.
Both ride on 18-inch alloy wheels that are finished in black, adding to their stealthy appeal. While the Hector Blackstorm stands out with its red brake calipers for a sportier look, the XUV700 Ebony's flush-fitted door handles add a touch of premiumness over the Hector’s traditional ones. At the rear, both continue their black-themed look, but the Hector Blackstorm leaves an impression with red accents on the tailgate and dark chrome badging.
On the inside, both the XUV700 Ebony and Hector Blackstorm embrace the all-black cabin theme in their own distinctive way. The XUV700 Ebony enhances its dark-finished theme with piano black elements throughout the center console, while the light grey roof liner introduces a subtle contrast.
Meanwhile, the Hector Blackstorm carries over its exterior theme and offers red accents across the interior, complemented by red ambient lighting that reinforces its sporty character.
Both SUVs are well-equipped in terms of features. The XUV700 offers a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a powered driver’s seat with memory function, ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety features include seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS.
In comparison, with the Hector Blackstorm you get a 14-inch portrait-style infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, 7-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, and automatic climate control. On the safety front, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera system, and ADAS.
The Hector Blackstorm offers two engine options: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The petrol unit produces 143 PS and 250 Nm, paired only with a CVT automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the diesel engine delivers 170 PS and 350 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
In contrast with the XUV700 Ebony, you either get an option of a 200 PS/ up to 380 Nm 2-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 185 PS/ up to 450 Nm 2.2-litre diesel engine choice. Both engine options are paired either to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque-convertor automatic transmission.
Prices for the Mahindra XUV700 Ebony start from Rs 19.64 lakh (ex-showroom) and range up to Rs 24.14 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Hector Blackstorm is priced between Rs 22.14 and Rs 22.57 lakh (ex-showroom). Both SUVs take on the likes of the Tata Harrier and Safari Dark Edition.
