A BS6-compliant Mahindra Bolero Power Plus has been spotted emission testing near Mahindra’s production facility near Chennai. The spy shots reveal subtle cosmetic updates at the front of the SUV, suggesting that Mahindra could launch the BS6 model with a revised design. Earlier this year, the Bolero Power Plus received BS6-ready certification and even got safety updates to meet AIS145 safety norms.

The Bolero Power Plus comes with a 1.5-litre mHawk D70 diesel engine that develops 71PS of power and 195Nm of torque. It’s offered with a 5-speed manual. This powertrain was certified BS6-ready by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT). Speaking of which, Mahindra recently launched its first BS6 SUV - the XUV300 petrol - at a price tag of Rs 8.30 lakh.

Visually, this test mule looks similar to the existing BS4 model. However, a closer look reveals a curvier design for the slatted grille. It was also seen with rudimentary headlamps and fog lamps, hinting that Mahindra could upgrade these components for the BS6 version. The side and rear end of the BS6 Bolero Power Plus is likely to carry on unchanged, which is no bad thing as it’s still a macho looking, tough-as-nails SUV.

Recently, the Bolero Power Plus received safety features like a driver airbag, rear parking sensors, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder, and a high-speed alert as standard to meet stringent AIS145 safety norms. Earlier, it only came with ABS with EBD, front disc brakes and a driver-side seatbelt reminder. Other notable features include a digital instrument cluster with MID, a single-DIN audio system, manual AC, power windows, central locking as well as remote locking.

The BS6 compliant Mahindra Bolero Power Plus is expected to hit showrooms in early 2020. Nope, the standard Bolero won’t be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms and will soon be discontinued. When launched, the BS6 compliant Bolero will cost more than the current model that’s priced from Rs 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
