The factory custom gets a larger 334cc single-cylinder BS6-compliant engine

[Update: Jawa has revealed the Perak BS6 power and torque figures and they are higher than before. Know more details here.]

  • The launch of the motorcycle was severely delayed from early-2019 to now.
  • The new prices are Rs 5,000 more than before.
  • Bookings for the Perak go live from January 1, 2020.

It’s exactly a year since Jawa made a comeback with a three bike portfolio. While the Jawa and the Forty Two went on sale immediately, we have had to wait a long while for the Perak bobber. It has finally gone on sale at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which is Rs 5,000 more than what Jawa had quoted for the bike 12 months ago. Bookings for the bike will commence from January 1 while deliveries are expected to commence from April 2.

Classic Legends' in-house chop shop had begun work on the Perak so as to pitch it as a factory custom from the revived Czech brand. In typical bobber fashion, the regular Jawa was chopped down to the necessary bits and bobs. The double-cradle chassis from the other two bikes had to be tweaked to accommodate the new wide cage-type swingarm. Add to that the customary Jawa fuel tank and blacked out mechanicals, the Perak bobber was born.

Jawa's custom department also went to work on the engine. The engine displacement was increased from 293cc to 334cc by way of a larger bore. With the increase in capacity, the Perak put out 30.4PS and 31Nm, which is 3PS and 3Nm more than the other two Jawas. This bored-out engine complies with BS6 emission norms. The motor works in conjunction with a 6-speed transmission.

On the components front, the Perak gets a conventional fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock. The fork isn't the same as the one used in the other two bikes as the internals have been changed in order to take the extra weight of the bike. The monoshock has been neatly positioned under the seat for a classic hard-tail look, just like the Triumph Bonneville Bobber. It gets disc brakes at both ends aided by dual-channel ABS.

What's left to be known is how quickly Jawa will be able to deliver the Perak bobber to its customers.  The company has ramped up production capacity at the Pithampur plant for the Jawa and Forty Two, bringing their waiting period down to 3-4 months for existing bookings.
