The most powerful road-going Jaguar is not the XJ220. Instead, it’s a four-door sedan based on the XE that goes by the name XE SV Project 8! Hard to believe, right? This is what the British brand’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) is capable of creating when it’s got some spare time. The Project 8 has been around for some time now, and Jaguar is now offering the same in ‘Touring’ guise with a fixed front splitter and without the massive rear wing.
The standard Project 8 is scarily fast and it definitely looks the part. The car screams performance and there is ‘race car’ written all over it. The massive wing and the decals were anything but subtle. If stealth is your second name, Jaguar has got you covered. It is making 15 units of the already limited Project 8 (300 units) in ‘Touring’ guise.
The Project 8 Touring is visually identical to the standard car except for the loud rear wing, which has been replaced by a subtle lip spoiler. Even the sporty decals on the body are missing. However, they can be added back if you so wish. That’s not it, the trade-off comes in the form of an electronically limited top speed of 300kmph in comparison to the standard Project 8’s 321kmph. Some downforce is also compromised with the deletion of the wing (122kg to be precise).
The Project 8 is the fastest car with four doors around the Green Hell, Dubai Autodrome and Laguna Seca Raceway. The standard Project 8 packs a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 that churns out 600PS and an equally solid 700Nm of torque. It is FAST and does the 0-100kmph run in 3.3 seconds. Power is sent to all four wheels and the SVO division has extensively used aluminium and carbon fibre to keep the weight in check.
Jaguar’s SVO division also makes some epic cars like the Range Rover Sport SVR, F-Type SVR. It was also responsible for the limited edition F-Type Project 7. The Project 8 was Jaguar's first take at a fast four-door saloon and looking at the lap records, we’d say that they have outdone themselves. While there is no mention of the price of the Project 8 Touring, the standard Project 8 is priced at $188,495 in the US, which roughly translates to Rs 1.3 crore (excluding taxes, if you're wondering).
