The EV giant already has partnered with Yamaha to develop the EC-05 electric scooter

  • Tin Ling, Suzuki’s manufacturing partner in Taiwan, will use Gogoro’s swappable charging network.
  • Gogoro already has 1300 battery swapping stations in Taiwan.
  • There’s no word from either of the companies regarding when we will get to see the first electric two-wheeler.
  • You might have never heard of Gogoro, but the electric two-wheeler maker is kind of a big deal in Taiwan. The company has an extensive reach in the country when it comes to charging infrastructure and we have already seen companies like Yamaha taking advantage of this by launching an electric scooter with their help. Gogoro has now joined hands with another EV player from the east, Tin Ling, Suzuki’s manufacturing arm.

Gogoro claims that it has over 1300 battery swapping stations in Taiwan, making it one of the leaders of the EV segment. And companies like Yamaha and Tin Ling help Gogoro to further expand its reach in the east. As of now, neither of the companies have shared anything about its upcoming two-wheeler other than that it’s going to be a scooter.

Last year, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda had joined hands to develop an all-new platform for electric two-wheelers. We haven’t heard anything concrete from any of the companies yet and now that Yamaha and (some part of) Suzuki are going with Gogoro, we expect more manufacturers to join Gogoro’s bandwagon. Moreover, the EV giant claims that around 1 lakh batteries are swapped at its stations every day, which makes it one of the largest battery-swapping networks in the entire world.

As of now, Gogoro doesn’t have any plans to enter India, but back in August, Drivezy (a Bengaluru-based vehicle rental company) said that it was planning to add the EC-05 to its fleet. Whether the company will officially launch a scooter or not known yet. But we expect that if it plans to come to our shores in the near future, the newly-launched Viva might just be perfect for our country. It offers a decent range of 80km, looks adorable and is feature loaded as well!
