Earlier this year, our prayers for the Hummer name returning to the auto industry after its demise in 2010 were finally answered as General Motors confirmed the Hummer will make a comeback as an electric SUV. It was scheduled to make its world debut on May 20. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the carmaker has revealed that the wait for the Hummer EV will be longer now.
A revised date for the unveil is yet to be decided, but GMC has confirmed that the Hummer EV is on track to launch in international markets by early 2021. The carmaker has already given us a glimpse of what the revived Hummer will look like, with a teaser video revealing the front end. While it retains the traditional grille design, there will be modern bits like a connected set of LED headlamps that run across the grille area.

Just because the Hummer returns as an EV doesn’t mean it will lose any of its grunt under the hood. In fact, according to GMC’s claims, it will be the most powerful Hummer ever, making up to 1000PS of power and a whopping 15,592Nm of torque. All this will propel the electric SUV from 0-100kmph in just 3 seconds.
The Hummer EV is a part of General Motors plans of 11 new EVs based on a new platform. The carmaker has already announced an investment of USD 2.2 billion in its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant for the production of all-electric trucks and SUVs. The Hummer EV could be a great potential rival to the likes of Jeep, with the advantage of being a proper off-roader with a luxurious and green advantage.
