The Ford EcoSport is perhaps one of those cars about which so much has already been written that there's isn't much left unanswered...barring the price, may be. Come June 26, i.e. tomorrow 1pm, even that will be out when the EcoSport is finally launched. But with so many variants on offer, how does one know which variant will offer the maximum bang for the buck? ZigWheels examines the EcoSport's spec sheet to demystify all the variants and the features each of them will come with. [Update (26/06/2013): Ford EcoSport launched at Rs 5.59 lakh!]
To start with, there will be four variants of the new Ford EcoSport on offer, which, in order of features and prices, are as follows: Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium (O).
While the top-of-the-line variants pack fancy equipment and commendable technology, even the entry-level Ambiente variant offers decent amount of standard equipment including power steering, air-conditioning, electric ORVMs with indicators, front power windows, theatre dimming interior lights, Bluetooth radio with AUX and USB connectivity, dual tone interiors and remote central locking.
The Trend variant packs in additional equipment such as steering mounted audio controls, front and rear power windows, body coloured door handles, silver coloured lower front grille, body coloured ORVMs, height adjustable driver’s seat, removable parcel tray, underseat storage space, an illuminated vanity mirror for the front passenger, reclining and folding rear seats along with emergency brake hazard warning and more importantly ABS.
Moving onto the Titanium variant of the Ford EcoSport, buyers will get a lot more kit than the Ambiente and Trend variants both in terms of equipment and cosmetic enhancements such as climate control, keyless entry and engine start/stop, cooled glovebox, one touch up/down driver’s window, cd/mp3 player, a 3.5 inch display screen for the infotainment system with SYNC voice control, fuel computer, front fog lamps, a 12V power outlet for rear passengers.
Exterior visual enhancements setting the Titanium variant of the EcoSport apart from the Trend variant are its chrome front grilles, silver roof rails and 16-inch alloy wheels. On the inside the EcoSport Titanium is distinguished from its lesser varaints by the leather wrapped steering wheel and manual gear knob, driver’s arm rest, adjustable lumbar support and front sunglass holder.
Additional safety features on the EcoSport Titanium will include front airbags, rear parking sensors, emergency assist, and a configurable speed alarm. The automatic variant of the EcoSport available in Titanium trim only will pack in equipment such as side and curtain airbags, traction control, hill hold function, stability control and electronic brake assist and front tweeters.
Ford’s fully loaded EcoSport variant, the Titanium (O) variant is identically equipped as the Titanium variant with the addition of side and curtain airbags as extra safety features.

The Ford EcoSport will be available with three engine options and two gearbox choices that consist of a 1.5 litre diesel engine that will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, a 1.0 litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine that will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as well, while the third engine option is a 1.5 litre petrol engine that will be available with a choice of a five-speed manual gearbox or an automatic gearbox.
The 1.5 litre diesel and petrol engines mated to the five-speed manual gearboxes are available in all trim levels, apart from the 1.5 petrol that is not available in the Titanium (O) spec. The 1.5 litre automatic Ford EcoSport will be available only in Titanium trim while the revolutionary new 1.0 litre EcoBoost powered Ford EcoSport will be available in the top-of-the-line Titanium and Titanium (O) trims only. While it is definitely a draw back that the EcoBoost engine and the automatic gearbox will be available in the top of the line Titanium trims only, the fact that the higher end trims pack in all the safety equipment and other bells and whistles will indeed make for a more attractive overall product.
