F1 inspired 2013 Ingenieur watch launched by Schaffhausen

Official engineering partner of the Mercedes- Benz works team, IWC Schaffhausen in collaboration with the AMG Petronas GP team have launched the 2013 Ingenieur watch collection. The watch collection will have 2 design lines one with classic stainless steel time pieces and the other which will be a sports range featuring innovative designs in materials such as carbon fibre, ceramic and titanium.

This new swanky collection sports a racing theme and borrows drawing and design cues from the Formula 1 cockpit. The carbon fibre is a hall mark in Formula 1 and makes the watches rigid and light weight, while high performance ceramic discs allow them to resist corrosion, and titanium makes it indestructible, anti-magnetic and skin-friendly.

Attracting most of the attention is the Ingenieur Constant-Force Tourbillon which has ceramic casing and platinum livery. It is based on the moon phase module and has two barrels to guarantee complete precision. Another model that captures the eye is the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month, which has its case made of titanium alumide, and boasts of a hybrid boost button (used in F1) which functions on the energy recovery principle. 

It has a semi-transparent dial, with sapphire glass inlays on the date, month and leap year discs. These inlays enable the wearer to observe the complex interplays of the multiple discs. On New Year’s Eve, the watch has sophisticated technological systems that make all its five displays move simultaneously. 

The Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance is made of epoxy resin-soaked carbon-fibre matting, the same material used for an F1 car monocoque and body work. The Ingenieur Chronograph Racer and Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil are featured with a tachimeter scale and are aimed at recording period times and pitstop times. 

Inspired by the name of the legendary Mercedes car, the Chronograph Silberfeil has the Silver Arrows engraved on the case back, and the dial has circular graining similar to that on the dashboard of the Mercedes W05 F1 car.
