Chevrolet Spin MPV to be launched in 2016

Chevrolet India in its annual dealer meet a few days ago finalized two new products for the Indian market. The first one is the Trailblazer SUV which will be launched this year. The second will be the Spin MPV targeted at Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio buyers in the private seven-seat passenger car space.

The Spin MPV is larger than the Enjoy and will come with three rows of seats. It 4,360 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height and is larger than the Ertiga but slightly smaller than the Mobilio. While the Thai version of the Spin sports a 1.5-litre petrol mill mated to a six-speed automatic, we believe the India Spec Spin will get the ubiquitous Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel mill in 90PS guise as its mainstay. Since the private car owner is targeted, a petrol unit will also be on the cards. 

The Spin shares the same platform as the Beat so expect some commonalities like plastics, certain mechanical bits like the powertrain, features and switchgear. It will be a stretched out like the Mobilio is to the Brio. The Spin MPV in fact has already been snapped testing in India last month.  Chevrolet will price the Spin a notch higher than the Enjoy but should be fairly competitive against the Mobilio.
