Although there’s no official confirmation, many dealerships have started accepting bookings for the SUV designed for millennials

The XC40 is Volvo’s smallest and quite possibly the best-looking SUV till date. And although Volvo India is yet to confirm the launch of the compact SUV, dealerships in Jaipur and Delhi have started accepting unofficial bookings for a refundable amount of Rs 4 lakh. The XC40 is expected to be priced at Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom) and will take on rivals such as the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

We drove the XC40 last year and here’s what we think about it.

In India, the Volvo XC40 will be available in three variants - Momentum, Inscription and R-Design. The first two variants will be offered with the Swedish carmaker’s D4 diesel engine that puts out 190PS of power and 400Nm of peak torque. The R-Design, on the other hand, will only be available with the T5 petrol engine that packs 250PS and 350Nm. Both engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive (AWD). It’s still unclear if Volvo will offer the T3 front-wheel drive (FWD) variant in India, but the chances are quite slim, to be honest. The dealerships we spoke to have said that the launch will happen in the last week of June.

In terms of safety and features, the compact SUV will be equipped with Volvo Cars’ Pilot Assist system (semi-autonomous driving), Run-Off-Road protection and mitigation, road sign information, lane keeping aid, cross traffic alert with brake support and rear collision warning. Additionally, it will also get system such as ‘City Safe’ that can detect vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals and take measures to avoid collisions up to speeds of 60kmph.

With the Volvo XC40 in India, their SUV portfolio in India will be complete. Like the XC60, we expect the baby SUV to be a class above its competition. Check out more details of the SUV below.
