BMW Debuts Blacked-out X7 Dark Shadow Edition

• It sports a Frozen Arctic Grey body shade and gets blacked-out bits on the kidney grille, tailpipes, and more.

• The iInteriors get a two-tone combination of Night Blue and black alongside other subtle tweaks.

• It is based on the range-topping M50i variant and shares the  4.4-litre, twin-turbo V8 petrol engine.

• It is unlikely to make it to India since we don’t get the M50i variant.

BMW has given its flagship SUV, the X7, a Dark Shadow Edition in the international market. Limited to just 500 units, this X7 is based on the range-topping M50i variant and as the name suggests, the X7 Dark Shadow edition is menacing to say the least.

Starting with the exterior, this special edition X7 bears an exclusive Frozen Arctic Grey body shade with a metallic finish. It also gets glossy black bits on the trademark kidney grille,  roof rails and tailpipes. It also gets the M Sport package as standard that includes a bespoke set of 22-inch V-spoke M light-alloy wheels in a Jet Black matt finish to round off the blacked-out theme.

 

The dark shadow treatment continues on the inside with a new two-tone blue and black cabin with Merino leather upholstery and Nappa leather on the upper dashboard, armrests and door panels. Other subtle tweaks include black Merino leather on the lower section of the instrument panel and front backrests as well as a Piano Black centre console finish. Feature highlights include a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround sound system, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, rear seat entertainment and massage functionality for the front seats.   

Since it is based on the M50i variant, it shares the same 4.4-litre, twin-turbo V8 petrol engine under the hood. This petrol engine makes 530PS of power and 750Nm of twist and is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. All this propels the SUV from 0-100kmph in 4.7 seconds and helps it top out at electronically-limited 250kmph. All that performance is topped off by the aural delight of a BMW sports exhaust system. 

Production is set to begin in August with a launch expected towards the end of 2020. Back home, the standard X7 is sold at prices ranging from Rs 92.5 lakh to Rs 1.63 crore (ex-showroom). The X7 Dark Shadow Edition is unlikely to make it to India since BMW doesn’t offer the M50i variant here.
