Audi has confirmed that it will make only all-electric cars from 2026 onwards. This announcement comes right after the Ingolstadt carmaker revealed its plans to launch 30 electric Audis (of which 20 will be all-electric) by the end of 2025. However, the German carmaker has planned one last hurrah to its ICE range, promising to bring in the final model in 2025.

Currently, Audi has three EVs -- e-tron, e-tron GT, and the Q4 e-tron -- available in various configurations. Moving forward, the manufacturer will expand its electric fleet with the A6 e-tron and possibly an all-electric version of the next-gen A4

Commenting on the latest developments, Audi CEO Markus Duesmann said, “Audi will significantly expand its range of all-electric models. With the new e-tron GT, RS e-tron GT, Q4 e-tron, and Q4 Sportback e-tron models, Audi is already launching more electric cars than models with combustion engines this year. By 2025, the brand aims to have more than 20 e-models in its lineup.”

Sure, electric vehicles are the way forward. Still, Audi believes that select markets will retain the demand for ICE cars till 2033. So, while the last one will be introduced in 2025, the luxury carmaker will keep updating the powertrains until they’re, for all intents and purposes, discontinued. To that, Duesmann makes a bold claim, asserting, “Audi’s last internal combustion engine will be the best we've ever built.”

Audi plans to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, and it looks like the carmaker is training its sights on it. In India, the e-tron and e-tron Sportback will be launched on July 22. You can read more about the India-spec e-trons’ variants and technical details right here.
