New Jeep Compass Revealed: Here's What's New And What It Means For India

The Jeep Compass has been a consistent performer for the American brand in India, and now, the 2025 model has been revealed! It is a generation change for the Compass. Though this iteration has been seen internationally, some of these changes might filter down to the Indian variant when it gets updated, most likely in the last quarter of 2026.

Let's dissect what's new, what's anticipated, and how it slots into the Indian SUV jigsaw.

What’s New On The Outside?

At first glance, the new Compass doesn’t look like a radical overhaul, but zoom in, and you’ll notice the design is cleaner and more cohesive. The signature seven-slot grille is now slimmer and more seamlessly integrated into the redesigned front fascia. The headlamps are sleeker and get updated LED signatures, lending a more modern face to the SUV.

The bumper shape is also new, with angular cuts and deeper air dams. At the back, updates involve thinner LED taillights and a new bumper design, which makes it appear wider. Jeep has obviously followed a minimalist but premium approach to this facelift, putting the Compass in line with international design cues observed on bigger siblings such as the Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer.

What’s Inside? Tech And Cabin Updates

Not much about the interior has been leaked yet, Jeep had previously revised the Compass's cabin around the world. Therefore, anticipate the same premium treatment to persist here, with such features as:

• A floating 16-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Uconnect 5

• A digital-only 10.1-inch instrument cluster

• Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

• Connected car technology

• Optional premium audio systems 

• A larger panoramic sunroof in higher trims

Jeep could also introduce additional soft-touch material, ambient lighting, and higher-level driver-assistance systems (ADAS) based on the market.

The new Compass with an increased boot space of 550 litres, up from the previous 505 litres of space.

Under the Hood: What Will Power The 2025 Jeep Compass?

Internationally, the Compass receives several powertrain variants from petrol and diesel to plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and a fully electric powertrain. In India, however, things are a little more precise. The hybrid options include a 147 PS 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol mild-hybrid and a 198 PS 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol plugin-hybrid. The EV verion comes with two battery pack options of sizes 73 kWh and 97 kWh.  

In India, the current model of the Compass comes only with a 2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine (170 PS/350 Nm) and a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic gearbox. 

With this makeover, there's speculation that Jeep might think about bringing back a turbo-petrol or even a mild-hybrid configuration to remain competitive against newer competition that offers multiple fuel choices. But nothing's official as of now.

The new Compass will boast a ground clearance of up to 200 mm, approach angle of 20 degrees, breakover angle of 15 degrees and departure angle of 26 degrees. Additionally, it has a water wading depth of up to 470 mm.  

When Will It Launch In India?

There's no announcement yet from Jeep India, but we expect the refreshed Compass to arrive on Indian roads sometime during the first half of 2026. Since the Compass is already manufactured at Jeep's Ranjangaon facility, localisation levels are expected to be high again, keeping prices in check for Jeep.

Count on a price hike over the current model, which ranges between 18.99 lakh and Rs 32.41 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Compass has been a sturdy SUV with Jeep DNA, but increased competition and poor powertrain variety have blunted its edge in India. With this international generation update, the Compass receives the makeover it needs. If Jeep India plays its cards well, increasing features and maybe creating additional engine offerings, it might be able to get the Compass back in the premium SUV league.
