Force Motors will launch the 2021 Gurkha on September 27, 2021. We have now come to know that bookings will begin on the same day for a token of Rs 25,000. Deliveries are set to commence on October 15.

The new Gurkha is Force Motors’ answer to the ever popular Mahindra Thar. While it looks similar to its predecessor, Force says each and every body panel has been redesigned. The end result is an SUV that looks very much like a budget G-Glass, thanks to the round headlamps, upright stance, beefy alloy wheels, and the placement of the front indicators.

Even the interior is a much more habitable place than its predecessor’s. That said, it still feels a tad rudimentary once you pit it against the Thar. The Gurkha also comes with twin captain seats that can be accessed via the tailgate for the rear occupants.

Now to the features. The offroader will get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a four-speaker sound system, and front power windows. Passenger safety is taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and tyre pressure monitoring.

The Gurkha is powered by a Mercedes-derived 2.6-litre diesel engine developing 91PS and 250Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The SUV’s off-road aids include a low range gearbox, manually locking front and rear differentials, and a snorkel.

The Gurkha is likely to be priced around Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in the same league as the Mahindra Thar and upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
