Soon after resuming production in the country, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the BS6-compliant S-Cross. We all know that the S-Cross will trade in its 1.3-litre diesel engine for a new 1.5-litre petrol motor. The diesel-only S-Cross will become a petrol-only model with this update. Now, just ahead of its launch, dealership sources have revealed important details about the upcoming crossover.

The S-Cross petrol is expected to launch in early June and bookings are unofficially open for a token amount of Rs 11,000. It will be offered in three variants -- Delta, Zeta and Alpha -- and the base-spec Sigma variant has been given the boot. The now-base-spec Delta manual variant is expected to be priced around Rs 9.90 lakh (ex-showroom), which is Rs 1 lakh more than the Ciaz Delta MT (Rs 8.93 lakh, ex-showroom). All three variants of the S-Cross will be offered with manual and automatic transmission options.

The BS6-compliant S-Cross will be powered by Maruti’s new 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 105PS and 138Nm. To cope with the lack of the diesel model’s frugal and torquey nature, it’ll be offered with Maruti’s mild hybrid system which packs in functions like torque boost and idle start-stop. That said, would the petrol S-Cross still be as punchy or efficient as the diesel S-Cross? We can answer that once we get our hands on it.

For the first time, the S-Cross will have an automatic option in India in the form of a 4-speed automatic apart from the standard 5-speed manual.
