To be launched around the festive season, the Hyundai Tucson will bridge the gap between Creta and the SantaFe

Hyundai showcased its upcoming SUV Tucson at the 2016 Auto Expo and announced its launch towards the end of the year. However, it seems like the Korean car maker has paced up its proceedings to bring in the SUV sooner than planned. A source close to the company has revealed that the Tucson will be launched around the festive season this year.

The Tucson to be launched here is the third generation iteration of the SUV and is based on the company’s new fluidic sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. Up front, it has the signature hexagonal grille placed between a set of sleek looking headlamps. The bumper is well sculpted with smart looking fog lamps integrated into it. In profile, the bulging wheel arches and diamond cut 5-spoke alloy wheels give the Tucson a young and aggressive stance. The rear looks similar to the Elite i20. The sleek boomerang shaped taillights, chunky roof spoiler and silver scuff plates give it a butch appeal.

Inside, the Tucson comes with soft touch and good quality interiors. Built on an all-new platform the Tucson is expected to be spacious. In terms of features, the Tucson will come equipped with a 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will offer navigation and a display for the reverse camera apart from projector headlamps, an electrically adjustable driver seat and more.

Under the hood, the Tucson will get the 1.6-litre, four-cylinder diesel unit from the Verna and Creta, and a new 1.4-litre turbo-charged petrol motor. The 1.4-litre unit is expected to come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while the 1.6-litre diesel will come with the option of either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Hyundai is expected to launch the Tucson around September-October to cash in on the festive season. When launched, it will go up against the likes of the Mahindra XUV 5OO, Skoda Yeti and the upcoming Honda HR-V.
