Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has won the 2016 International Engine of the Year award in the ‘Best Engine under 1.0-litre’ category. Introduced in 2012, this is the fifth consecutive win for Ford’s EcoBoost engine.
Ever since its launch in 2012, this engine has been a regular winner in many categories of the Engine of the Year awards. It has won the overall International Engine of the Year award thrice in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and also bagged the ‘Best New Engine’ award in 2012.
In India, Ford’s compact SUV-EcoSport is powered by the EcoBoost engine which produces around 125PS of power. In the European markets, Ford sells its hatchback- Ka (known as Figo in India) with the same EcoBoost engine.
Internationally, the American carmaker’s range of EcoBoost engines comprises of - 1.5-litre, 1.6‑litre, 2.0-litre and 2.3-litre four-cylinder engines, and 2.7-litre along with a 3.5-litre V6 engine which can be found under the hood of the Ford GT supercar that will take part in the in Le Mans race later this month.
Joe Bakaj, vice president, product development, Ford Europe, said, “The 1.0-litre EcoBoost was a game-changer, and despite others following our lead, it remains the undisputed benchmark in its class five years on. The spirit of innovation continues to drive us as we look to use the same smart thinking for a new breed of efficient, clean and powerful down-sized diesel engines.”
Maruti Suzuki will also be launching its 1.0-litre BoosterJet in India by the end of this year in India. The Baleno RS will be the first car in the carmaker's portfolio to be equipped with this engine.
