For starters, the Thar Earth Edition is finished in a Desert Fury shade, which is basically satin matte beige. You can also notice that the grille and the ‘Thar’ branding on the ORVM and alloys are finished in this new body colour. To dial up the stealth, the logos and ‘4X4’ badging have been blacked out, while you get body decals as well. Lastly, there is a ‘Earth Edition’ badging on the B-pillar to denote the variant you’re driving.
Inside, the Thar Earth Edition gets black and beige leatherette upholstery seat covers with the headrests featuring a design embossing that mimics sand dunes in a desert. Also, the steering wheel, AC vents, center console inserts and the Thar branding on doors are all finished in the same Desert Fury body colour.
Another cool touch is that the Thar Earth Edition’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plates on the dashboard is finished in an unique design with the serial number starting in ‘1.’ And lastly, chrome elements such as the steering wheel badging is finished in dark chrome while the AC controls are finished in piano black.
The Thar Earth Edition is offered only in the top-spec LX variant with the four-wheel drivetrain. That means you get either a 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol or a 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engine, teamed with either the 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The two-wheel drivetrain with the 1.5-litre diesel and 2-litre turbo-petrol engines isn’t offered with this edition.
The Mahindra Thar locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Force Gurkha three-door. Down the road, the Thar will be offered in a larger 5-door avatar with design updates and plentiful feature additions. You can read more about it by tapping on this link.
