In the past decade, SUVs have taken over the Indian car market, due to which many car brands have prioritized bringing in new and or updated SUVs over all other body types. In this report, we are going to take a look at the most anticipated SUVs that will soon be launched in India. If you are in the market for an SUV priced under Rs 30 lakh, you might want to consider waiting after taking a look at this list:

Tata Curvv

Expected price: Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom)

The Tata Curvv is one of the most awaited launches of 2024, and will create a niche for itself in the compact SUV segment with its coupe styling. It is expected to be launched in the second half of 2024. Not just styling elements, but it will also share interior bits and features from the Nexon and Harrier SUV.

The expected features list includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital 10.25-inch driver's display, a wireless phone charger, cruise control, and ventilated front seats. In terms of safety, it will get six airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Tata Curvv will get both turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, but first we’ll be getting the all-electric version with an expected claimed range of up to 500 km. 

Citroen Basalt

Expected price: Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom)

Next on the list, we have the Citroen Basalt, which will be a direct competitor to the Tata Curvv’s internal combustion engine version. The Basalt is the French carmaker’s SUV coupe for the Indian car market, sharing its underpinnings with the Citroen C3 and C3 Aircross. Features expected are a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital driver's display, automatic air conditioning, cruise control and a wireless phone charger. Safety features are likely to include six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), and rear parking sensors. We can also expect it to come with a 360-degree camera. 

The Basalt SUV will likely come with the 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and transmission options will likely include both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Expected price: Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) 

We have another Tata on the list, and it’s the all-electric version of the Harrier mid-size SUV. The Harrier EV is expected to be offered with ADAS features and a tweaked design to give it a fresher look. We expect Tata to launch it towards the end of 2024. 

It is expected to have a similar feature set as the ICE model and offer a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and an air purifier.Safety features will likely include 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start assist, and a 360-degree camera. It will also be getting a host of level-2 ADAS features. 

The Harrier’s EV’s specifications are still undisclosed. However, we do know that it will get a dual motor option for an all-wheel-drivetrain. 

Mahindra Thar 5-door

Expected price: Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom)

The iconic Mahindra Thar is getting a 5-door version, which is set to debut on August 15, 2024. Other than being larger than the existing lifestyle Mahindra SUV, the Mahindra Thar 5-door will also get a feature-rich cabin which will make the SUV feel more upmarket.

It will likely come equipped with a sunroof, push-button start/stop, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, digital-drivers display and cruise control. Safety will be taken care of by 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera.

The Thar 5-door will come with a 2-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual  and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.  

Hyundai Alcazar Facelift

Expected price: Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom)

The facelifted version of the Hyundai Alcazar is expected to reach the Indian shores by the end of 2024. It will feature new design elements, and an upgraded cabin, which will be similar to that of the facelifted Creta. The facelifted Alcazar was earlier spotted testing in South Korea, and we were able to decode certain bits of its design. 

It is expected to get features like  dual 10.25-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment and digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats. In terms of safety, it will get ADAS, hill-start assist control (HAC), electronic stability control (ESC), 6 airbags as standard, and a 360-degree camera. 

It will continue to get the option of two engines, including a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. For the petrol engine, you will get an option of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, and for the diesel engine, you can either choose the  6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
