Well, well, well. We thought Jaguar would be taking the backseat as far as the electric car game is concerned, but a few months ago, they unveiled the Jaguar Type 00 Concept and marched their way into the spotlight with a lot of strong opinions.
This is no ordinary concept car, mind you. It is Jaguar’s way of screaming, “I’m still here, and I’m all-electric, baby!”
This concept will be unveiled in India on June 14 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.
From a distance, you may be tempted to mistake the Type 00 for a prop from a sci-fi film. The sweeping bonnet, swoopy roofline, and fastback rear create that familiar grand tourer shape, but with some decidedly futuristic elements, such as butterfly doors, a glass-free tailgate, and a huge glass roof makes the car feel super roomy.
And don't even get us started on those 23-inch alloy wheels, because apparently, anything less just isn't dramatic enough. Oh, and those rear cameras? They're concealed behind tiny brass bits with laser-engraved Jaguar leapers. Subtle? Not really. Cool? Definitely.
The concept comes in two flavours: Miami Pink and London Blue. No, we’re not talking about lipstick shades. Jaguar says one represents Miami’s Art Deco vibe, the other a nod to the brand’s British roots. Translation? One’s for Instagram, the other’s for your afternoon tea. Just kidding :p
Step inside and you're met by what appears to be a luxury spaceship. Jaguar has taken a complete minimalist approach, no buttons, no mess, and not a single traditional switchgear. Instead, there's a massive brass spine dividing driver and passenger, as if to say, "This is your side. Don't get out of line."
The seats are stitched-free, wool-covered slabs atop stone bases. Yes, actual stone. Why? Well, we don't know that yet!
Screens remain out of sight until called upon, storage compartments quietly slide open as if you are calling forth a wizard's drawer, and there are pulsing crystal-like 'totems' which allow you to control the ambient lighting. Swanky.
Jaguar has not revealed all the details, but here's the summary: the Type 00 is currently a concept, but it strongly hints at their new electric four-door GT, due to break cover internationally sometime in late 2025.
It is being made upon an all-new EV platform, the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), and, as per rumours, it can probably get a 770 km range (WLTP) and incredibly quick charging that provides more than 300 km within 15 minutes. So yes, you can be trip-ready before you've even had a chance to drain your overpriced coffee.
The Type 00 is the poster child of Jaguar’s “I’m rebranding myself” era. Their current lineup (F-Pace) is on its last lap, with production ending this year. By the year-end, it will be all-electric, all-different, all-bold. At least that is what it seems like.
Jaguar's new styling direction is all about "Copy Nothing," and the reactions have been a mix of admiration, confusion, and the odd eye-roll among brand purists.
As a part of its world tour, after Tokyo, Monaco and Paris, the Jaguar Type 00 Concept will land in Mumbai, making India one of the select countries where you get to catch a glimpse of this electric unicorn in the flesh. And though you won't be able to purchase it (not yet, at least), the production model should hit Indian shores in late 2026 or early 2027.
So, if you've been holding out for an electric Jaguar that's part spaceship, part sculpture, and completely insane in the best possible way, your dreams may have just been answered.
