The BMW 2 Series Is Set To Be Launched Tomorrow! The Entry-Level Bimmer Might Just Be For You…

BMW is set to launch the new 2 Series on our shores tomorrow. It will be an entry-level sedan positioned below the 3 Series in the German marque’s lineup in India. The 2 Series has always been a sedan that provides you with luxury and BMW’s DNA at a slightly affordable price, and now the same package has matured and gotten better. 

Here’s why it might just appeal to you and could be a car to consider if you want the BMW tag, or just want driving pleasure…

Design: Sporty And Clean!

While there is nothing subtle about the design of the 2 Series, the design elements are also pleasing to look at. There are sporty blacked-out elements throughout that add a nice contrasting look. The front end gets heavy refreshments, featuring new styling elements that are in line with BMW’s new design language. To start with, it boasts a familiar kidney grille – a trademark on modern BMW cars. The LED headlights look sharper now and have new elements inside them. Compared to the outgoing model, the bumper has a neater look now. 

The 2 Series Gran Coupe sits on 18-inch alloy wheels and is also available with optional 19-inch alloy wheels. The body style of the 2 Series remains the same, but it has slightly grown in size, with its length increased from 4526 mm to 4546 mm. Apart from that, it stands 25 mm taller now, but the wheelbase remains the same. While it is an entry-level car, it is still as long as a Hyundai Verna or a Honda City. 

The roofline merges smoothly into the rear, giving it a nice coupe-like design. The rear receives a proper upgrade, featuring newly designed, aggressively styled LED taillights. This Bimmer has an angry-looking rear, but is still pleasing enough to keep looking at it for a long time after you have parked your car. The exhaust tips, lip spoiler, and shark fin antenna add to the sportiness quotient. 

Interior: Premium And Funky 

The interior of the new 2 Series has been made slightly more premium and tech-forward, giving you a sense of luxury while having the sportiness that you would expect from a BMW. It comes with a new curved display which merges neatly with the digital driver’s display. The sedan’s infotainment is powered by the latest BMW OS 9 to keep it future-proof. The AC vents have been updated as well and take inspiration from the new BMW 5 Series.

There are sporty accents on the steering wheel, and you also get sportier-looking hues for the upholstery. Overall, the cabin looks well-curated with the right amount of premiumness and funky vibes. The rear seat might not be for you if you are a tall person, but mid-sized adults won’t complain about the space on offer. 

Features: Everything You Need And More…

The 2 Series comes with all your creature comforts and niceties that you would expect from an entry-level BMW. The top features include a large infotainment unit, a Harman Kardon audio system, a wireless phone charger, auto dimming IRVM, a dual-zone climate control and a panoramic glass roof.

Furthermore, you get multi-colour ambient lighting and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display as well. The front seats are heated and powered, and you also get the option of a massage function with the sports seats. 

Safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, a bunch of ADAS features, cornering brake control, ABS with brake assist, and parking sensors. 

Powertrain: Not BMWish

The new 2 Series comes with a downsized 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol, and that unit won’t really cater to the enthusiast inside. What’s impressive is the 7-speed DCT, which is extremely polished and sporty at the same time. Using the sports mode, the BMW can hit the 100 kmph mark from standstill in just over 8.5 seconds.

Rivals

The current BMW 2 Series retails between Rs 43.9 lakh and Rs 46.9 lakh (ex-showroom), while the new version could likely be priced from Rs 45 lakh to Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom), a slight premium over the current model. 

The 2 Series is for the younger generation, and for smaller families where people don’t really care about space. Yes, you get plenty of family-friendly SUVs at this price range, but if you want a car that is sporty to look at, has the badge value and provides a good enough drive experience, then the 2 Series should be the one you should consider waiting for. With its mature package, it has also gotten smarter-looking and closer to what the 3 Series offers.
